Russia aims to block alternative non-Russian oil supplies to Europe via Ukraine. Moscow has been targeting pumping stations and critical energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine, according to Serhii Koretsky, a representative of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
This demonstrates an attempt to make Europe dependent on Russian energy amid the ongoing war against Ukraine.
Two days of attacks on energy infrastructure
“Russian forces have attacked the oil transport infrastructure in southern Ukraine for two days in a row. Damage and destruction were recorded at one of the pumping stations. Fortunately, people are safe,” Koretsky says.
He emphasizes that these are not isolated incidents.
“Why did the Russians deliberately target and destroy a pumping station on the ‘Druzhba’ pipeline in Brody? Sooner or later, we will find out the truth,” Koretsky claims.
Emergency Service units and company specialists are already working to eliminate the consequences of the strikes, but the strategic threat remains.
According to Koretsky, Russia's goal is precisely to block alternative energy supply routes to Europe.
Azerbaijan ready to support Europe: 10 billion cubic meters of gas
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has announced that Baku is ready to increase gas production by 10 billion cubic meters and boost exports to European countries, as per UkrInform.
“An important part of our partnership has always been, is, and will undoubtedly remain cooperation in the energy sector, especially after 2022, when we signed a strategic partnership with the European Commission,” Aliyev says.
Since then, Azerbaijan has expanded gas exports to the EU not only in volume but also in the number of countries, reaching 10 EU member states.
