“Air defense zoo”: Ukraine’s drones took out Russian Pantsir, Tor, Buk, and S-300V in one night over occupied south

Two separate units of Ukraine’s drone forces struck Russian air defense assets across occupied Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts overnight on 6 March, using domestic FP-2 drones.

“Air defense zoo”: Ukraine’s drones took out Russian Pantsir, Tor, Buk, and S-300V in one night over occupied south

Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS) destroyed four Russian air defense systems across occupied southern Ukraine in a single overnight operation on 6 March, SBS commander Robert "Madyar" Brovdi posted on Telegram. The strikes covered every tier of Russia's layered air defense — from short-range point-defense to long-range systems — using Ukrainian-made FP-2 fixed-wing strike drones. Brovdi described the haul as an "air defense zoo."

Ukraine's systematic dismantling of Russian air defense across occupied southern and eastern Ukraine is part of a broader campaign to hollow out Russia's layered defense network, create corridors for Ukrainian aviation to operate closer to the front, and enable deeper long-range drone strikes against Russian military infrastructure. Each destroyed tier of Russia's air defense reduces Russia's ability to shield troops, logistics, and command posts in the occupied rear, compounding the pressure Ukraine is building through parallel deep-strike campaigns targeting energy and supply infrastructure.

Four systems, two units, one night

Overnight on 6 March, two separate units of the Unmanned Systems Forces carried out coordinated strikes against Russian air defense systems in occupied Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts, Brovdi says.

Kairos Battalion — the 9th Battalion of the 414th Separate Brigade "Madyar's Birds" — destroyed a Buk surface-to-air missile system (SAM) in occupied Kherson Oblast and an S-300V medium-range SAM launcher in occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Both strikes used Ukrainian-made FP-2 middle-strike fixed-wing drones carrying 60 kg warheads.

The 1st Separate Center of the SBS struck a Pantsir-S1 air defense missile-and-gun system and a Tor SAM, both in occupied Zaporizhzhia oblast, using FP-2 drones with heavier 100 kg warheads, the SBS commander wrote. Militarnyi identifies the Tor system as the Tor-M1 variant.

Together, the two units hit systems representing short, medium, and long-range air defense — all in one night. Brovdi noted that detecting and destroying Russian AD components across all range tiers is "one of the priorities of the birds (drones, - Ed) of the SBS."

The FP-2 is a Ukrainian-made medium-range fixed-wing kamikaze drone, developed by Fire Point. It has a range of 200 km and carries warheads of up to 105 kg. The drone's FPV-style interface gives operators first-person guidance during strikes. The 6 March operation is the clearest public demonstration yet of the FP-2 being used in two warhead configurations against different target tiers — lighter payloads for mobile radar-heavy systems like the Buk and S-300V, heavier warheads for hardened close-range systems like the Pantsir and Tor.
