The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported that it detained two Russian accomplices in Kherson. They turned out to be a local garage cooperative security guard and his wife.
According to the investigation, the man justified the temporary occupation of the left bank of the Kherson region on social media and called for seizing the regional center.
The couple of spies loved to walk their dog and look around
Meanwhile, his wife was directing Russian strikes against the community. It was established that under the pretext of walking the dog, she surveyed the area to identify and relay the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces to the Russian forces.
For contacts with the occupiers, the woman initially used her own mobile phone. Later, for operational secrecy, Russian intelligence operatives delivered her a new smartphone via a drone from the left bank.
SBU officers documented the crimes of both individuals and arrested them at their residences. During searches, the couple’s mobile phones were seized as evidence of crimes committed in favor of Russia.
The detainees were charged with disseminating information
Investigators from the Security Service informed the detainees of suspicion according to the crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
-
Part 2, Article 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established under Ukrainian law, committed during martial law);
-
Part 3, Article 436-2 (justifying, recognizing as lawful, denying Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, and glorifying its participants).
The detainees face up to eight years in prison, with property confiscation.
