Four civilians were killed in a Russian artillery strike on the city of Kherson on 1 March, according to Ukraine’s National Police.
Russian forces have regularly shelled Kherson since their retreat in November 2022, often targeting residential districts and critical infrastructure, making Kherson among the most dangerous cities in Ukraine for civilians.
The shelling targeted the Korabelnyi district, specifically residential areas in the Shumenskyi neighborhood. Russian forces carried out several artillery strikes during the day, police said.
As a result of an attack around 13:00, four civilians sustained fatal injuries. Two 77-year-old women were killed on the spot near the entrance of a residential building.
An 85-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man later died in hospital. Doctors attempted to save them, but their injuries proved fatal.
The National Police said a war crimes investigation has been opened. Officers are documenting the attack as another act of armed aggression against civilians.
