Russia launched 126 drones and a ballistic missile overnight; Ukraine downed 105, but strikes killed three across three oblasts

Russian forces launched a ballistic Iskander-M missile and 126 strike drones — including approximately 80 Shaheds, as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and other types — against Ukraine overnight into 23 February, Ukraine's Air Force Command reports. Air defenses shot down or suppressed 105 of the drones across northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine by 8:00 am.

The ballistic missile and 20 strike drones hit targets at 11 locations, with debris from downed drones falling at one additional location, according to preliminary data from the Air Force. Aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare teams, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces were engaged in repelling the attack.

The attack was still ongoing at the time of reporting, with several enemy drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.

Kharkiv hit by rockets; two injured

Russian forces struck Kharkiv with rockets, injuring at least two people, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov and Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov.

"Kharkiv's Kholodnohirskyi district is under enemy rocket attack. Consequences are being clarified. Osnovianskyi district is also under attack. There is information about one wounded person," Terekhov wrote on Telegram, urging residents to stay cautious as the rocket attack was continuing.

Syniehubov later confirmed two people had been injured in the strikes.

Over the past day, eight settlements across Kharkiv Oblast came under enemy fire, injuring two additional residents — a 44-year-old woman in Pecheniky and a 69-year-old man in the village of Podoly in Kuryliv community. Russian forces employed a range of weapons across the oblast, including a Geran-2 drone, three Lancet drones, a Molniya drone, three FPV drones, and one drone of an unidentified type.

Civilian infrastructure sustained significant damage: a gas station, a private home, an outbuilding, and two vehicles were hit in Kupiansk district; four vehicles were damaged in Barvinkove in Izium district; and a civilian enterprise was struck in Pecheniky in Chuhuiv district.

Odesa: two killed, three injured in strikes on industrial and energy infrastructure

Two people were killed and at least three injured when Russian drones struck industrial and energy infrastructure in Odesa Oblast overnight, Odesa Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Kiper reported on Telegram.

"Overnight, the enemy again attacked Odesa Oblast with strike drones. Industrial, energy, and civilian infrastructure came under attack. Unfortunately, two people were killed. At least three were injured," Kiper wrote.

He later identified the dead as a 20-year-old woman and a man of approximately 45. The injured range in age from 23 to 45, with two in serious condition.

The strikes damaged production and warehouse facilities, administrative buildings, an auto parts store, and vehicles, according to Kiper. One drone struck an apartment in a multi-story residential building but failed to detonate.
