Ukraine confirmed damage to ballistic missile infrastructure at Russia's Kapustin Yar test range from previous strikes. The range in Astrakhan Oblast is the launch site for Russia's Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBM), fired at Ukraine twice.
Confirmed damage to missile servicing facilities
On 8 February, Ukraine's General Staff reported that strikes on the Kapustin Yar State Central Inter-Service Training Ground damaged a technical facility for servicing medium-range ballistic missiles. An assembly building and a logistics warehouse also sustained damage. The General Staff said enemy losses and the full extent of destruction are still being assessed.
The confirmation came as part of a broader 8 February report on Ukrainian strikes across multiple occupied areas and inside Russia.

Other reported strikes on 7-8 February
The same General Staff report detailed several other strikes by Ukrainian forces. Overnight on 8 February, Ukrainian units hit an enemy logistics depot near Russian-occupied Rozivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. On 7 February, forces struck a Russian troop concentration area near Krasnohirske in occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Ukrainian units also hit a Russian UAV control point near Novoekonomichne in occupied Donetsk Oblast.
Satellite imagery points to pre-launch complex damage
OSINT group Cyberboroshno earlier shared satellite imagery from the test range. The analysis identified two damaged buildings at Site #105, the pre-launch preparation complex for medium-range and intercontinental ballistic missiles. Cyberboroshno noted that the weather conditions complicated the satellite analysis.
Kapustin Yar
Kapustin Yar is a Russian military test range in Astrakhan Oblast, near the border with Kazakhstan. Founded in 1946 as the main testing center for Soviet ballistic missiles, the facility remains one of Russia's key missile testing sites. Russia launched its Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile from Kapustin Yar both times it struck Ukraine. The first attack hit Pivdenmash in Dnipro in November 2024. The second struck Lviv Oblast overnight on 9 January 2026.
