Russian drones struck Naftogaz facilities in Poltava Oblast overnight on 8 February, causing fires and damaging assets in Ukraine's second-largest gas extraction region. The attack marked the 19th targeted Russian strike on Naftogaz since the start of the year. It came as part of a broader 101-drone barrage across the country.
Poltava Oblast ranks second after Kharkiv Oblast in the number of gas extraction facilities in Ukraine. Previous Russian missile strikes nearly destroyed Ukraine's gas production capacity, forcing the country to sharply increase gas imports. Russia carried out 24 combined attacks on Naftogaz in 2025.
Fires erupt at multiple sites in Myrhhorod district
Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi reported that Russian forces hit facilities of the Naftogaz Group in Poltava Oblast with a massive drone barrage overnight on 8 February. Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi confirmed direct hits on the company's assets.
"Assets and equipment sustained damage. There were no casualties. Emergency services are on the scene. Emergency crews, technical services, and all relevant units are working at full capacity to deal with the aftermath of the attack," Koretskyi said.
The company said it continues operating under constant threat, focusing on worker safety and restoring damaged infrastructure.

Head of Poltava Oblast Military Administration Vitalii Diakivnych said direct drone hits and falling debris caused fires at several locations of an enterprise in Myrhhorod district. Ukraine's State Emergency Service deployed about 200 rescuers and 60 units of equipment to extinguish the blazes. The service confirmed no one was killed or injured.
101 drones launched from five locations across Russia
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 101 attack drones overnight on 7-8 February. The barrage included Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other drone types of long-range UAVs fired from several locations in Russia.

Ukrainian air defense shot down or suppressed 69 drones, but a total of 32 UAVs struck targets at 13 locations across the country, while the debris of one downed drone caused additional damage at the 14th location.
