Charlotte Higgins, chief culture writer for the Guardian, will release a book titled "Ukrainian Lessons" in August 2026, focusing on art and culture during the war, according to Penguin Random House's website.
Higgins based her work on three years of reporting trips to Ukraine. "Ukrainian Lessons" explores "the profound connections between war, art, and life," the publisher states.
The publishing house describes the book as "timely and unforgettable," about "what artists are willing to risk and why culture remains something worth fighting for."
"Charlotte Higgins never imagined she would be reporting on war. But in autumn 2022, seven months after russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, she traveled there to cover a literary festival. The experience changed her life," Penguin Random House notes.
Ukrainian artist Serhiy Maydukov created the book's cover, as he shared on his Instagram page.
"Charlotte Higgins has written an important and, without a doubt, wonderful book — Ukrainian Lessons. [...] Thank you for choosing me for this work, which I am proud of," Serhiy wrote.
Penguin Random House will publish "Ukrainian Lessons" on 20 August 2026.
