Ukrainian law enforcement has classified a car explosion in Kyiv’s Obolon district as a terrorist attack and opened a pre-trial investigation, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said on 4 January.
The explosion occurred earlier in the day in the courtyard of a residential building in the Obolon district. The blast went off as the trunk of a car was being opened.
A serviceman sustained shrapnel wounds in the explosion. A woman who was nearby at the time was not injured.
The investigation is being carried out by investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities have not yet released further information on possible suspects or the circumstances of the attack.
