Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will stop in Canada on his way to Florida to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney and hold online talks with European leaders, he told journalists on Saturday.
"On this path, we will stop in Canada. I will have a meeting with Prime Minister Carney. We plan to communicate online with European leaders, discuss all issues, inform them, exchange those details of the documents that I will discuss with the President of the United States," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president confirmed he is already traveling to Florida, where he is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump on 28 December at 3:00 pm local time (11:00 pm Kyiv time) in Palm Beach, according to the White House.
Zelenskyy said the on 27 December discussions will address "sensitive issues" contained in the documents he plans to present to Trump. "Among all these details – you know which issues are sensitive – we will raise all these issues," he stated.
The meeting comes as Kyiv and Washington have developed a 20-point plan that Zelenskyy earlier this week described as "a basic document on ending the war." The plan envisions Ukraine receiving strong security guarantees, with the Armed Forces numbering 800,000 personnel in peacetime, according to the Ukrainian president.
Trump told Politico he expects the meeting to "go well" but warned that Zelenskyy "has nothing until I approve it." European officials privately anticipate a positive outcome from Sunday's meeting while preparing for unpredictable scenarios.
Bloomberg cited a source close to the Kremlin saying Russian authorities will demand "key changes" to the peace plan. Russian government officials have not officially commented on the document.
Zelenskyy announced the agreement to meet with Trump on 26 December, following his phone conversation with members of the US president's team, Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
