Andrii Yermak resigned as Head of the Presidential Office one day before he was scheduled to travel to the United States for negotiations on a "peace deal," reports Axios citing two Ukrainian officials.
According to Axios sources, Yermak submitted his resignation a day before "he was supposed to go to Miami for talks with President Trump's team about a peace plan."
The now-former head of the Presidential Office, along with several advisers to Zelenskyy, was set to hold negotiations with Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, Axios reports.
"Ukrainian officials said the goal was to finally align the positions of the US and Ukraine before Witkoff and Kushner's trip to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin," the publication states.
One Axios source said Yermak's resignation "put the talks in question" but would not lead to changes in Ukraine's position on ending the war.
On 28 November, Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Andrii Yermak from his position as Head of the Presidential Office. This followed searches by anti-corruption agencies at Yermak's premises.
The European Commission believes that current anti-corruption investigations in Ukraine, which include searches of top officials, demonstrate that anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine are functioning.
