US Special Representative for Ukraine General Keith Kellogg said in an interview with Fox News that President Donald Trump has authorized Ukraine to conduct long-range strikes into Russian territory, though the Pentagon has at times withheld permission for specific operations.
When asked directly whether the President's position allows Ukraine to strike Russia at long range, Kellogg responded: "I think reading what he has said, and reading what Vice President Vance has said as well as Secretary Rubio, the answer is yes. Use the ability to hit deep. There are no such things as sanctuaries."
The comments follow Vice President J.D. Vance's statement that Washington is discussing the possibility of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, with the final decision resting with Trump. American media outlet Axios previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requested Tomahawk missiles during a meeting on 23 September with Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Zelenskyy and Trump discussed removing any taboos on weapons supplies to Ukraine during their UN meeting. Zelenskyy later said that Ukraine has its own long-range weapons to respond to Russian attacks, commenting on media reports about the Tomahawk request.
These statements follow a series of airspace violations across eight NATO countries.
