Ukraine has received a $1.35 billion grant from the United States for social and humanitarian state budget expenditures, the Ministry of Finance reports.
This grant has pushed total international direct budget support beyond $100 billion since the start of the full-scale war.
According to the ministry, the funds will be directed towards reimbursing priority social and humanitarian state budget expenditures, specifically including teachers’ salary payments.
The funding was channeled through USAID in coordination with the US Treasury and State Department, via the World Bank’s PEACE in Ukraine project, the ministry reports.
Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko said that direct budget support from the US has reached $28.2 billion since February 2022. This represents the largest financial assistance to Ukraine among all countries worldwide.
Of the $7.8 billion in US budget support planned for 2024, $5.2 billion has already been mobilized, according to the ministry’s statement.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, confirmed that international direct budget funding to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war has now exceeded $100 billion.
US support has also been especially critical in military aid, accounting for nearly 52% of total international defense assistance given to Ukraine since the invasion began.
The issue of US financial support for Ukraine became critical when Trump won the election, as Trump, during his election campaign, claimed to end the war in 24 hours and stop allocating money to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression.
The Biden administration is working to rapidly allocate the remainder of over $6 billion in military aid for Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, fearing the new administration will halt the weapons shipment.
