Ukrainian forces have reclaimed previously lost positions south of Chasiv Yar, while Russian forces advanceв near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and in the Kurakhove direction, according to analysis based on geolocated footage from 4-5 November.
For over a year, Russia has concentrated on seizing Ukraine-controlled areas of Donetsk Oblast, with major attacks repeatedly occurring near Pokrovsk, Selydove, Chasiv Yar, and other towns.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on 5 November that while Ukrainian forces made gains near Chasiv Yar, Russian forces simultaneously advanced east of Stupochky and Orikhovo-Vasylivka.
Russian forces captured Druzhba in the Toretsk direction. Operations continued across multiple axes, with Russian forces attacking "near Toretsk itself; northwest of Toretsk in the direction of Kostiantynivka; northeast of Toretsk near Dachne" and several other locations, according to ISW.
The UK Ministry of Defense confirms that Russian forces seized Hirnyk northeast of Kurakhove. Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets reports that Ukrainian forces withdrew from the Izmailivka-Hirnyk-Kurakhivka-Ostrivske area.
Mashovets details the Russian order of battle in the Kurakhove direction, noting that "elements of the Russian 90th Tank Division, 27th Motorized Rifle Division, and the 5th, 110th, and 114th motorized rifle brigades are operating along the Ukrainsk-Novoselydivka-Novodmytrivka line."
The Russians maintain significant reserves in the area, including "one motorized rifle regiment and three battalions of the 51st CAA and one tank battalion," Mashovets reports.
