Overnight, Russian forces attacked Chuhuiv in Kharkiv Oblast and struck the city of Kharkiv repeatedly, injuring 21 people, including 5 children.
In recent days, Russia has intensified its attacks on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv using KAB-250 guided bombs, which are precision-guided munitions designed to hit specific targets. However, the attacks appear to have focused on civilian areas, including residential buildings and shops, intended to intimidate the population rather than focus on military infrastructure. Ukraine’s air defenses struggle to intercept these guided bombs effectively, particularly when launched from short distances across the border.
The strike was carried out using guided aerial bombs and Tornado-S multiple-launch rocket systems, according to the National Police.
The continuous strikes on Kharkiv, a city with a pre-war population of 1.4 million located near the Russian border, demonstrate Russia’s persistent strategy of targeting major Ukrainian urban centers.
In the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv, seven people were injured, including a 16-year-old girl, when a strike damaged the structure between the eighth and ninth floors of an apartment building, destroying three units.
A fire broke out near the apartment building and one man was hospitalized with injuries from broken glass, according to the head of Kharkiv Oblast State Administration.
The evening attacks on Kharkiv resulted in six more casualties, damaged 21 private residences and four vehicles, while also destroying a utility building, Kharkiv’s Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported.
In Chuhuiv, Russian forces struck a private property, destroying a utility building, though no casualties were reported in this incident, according to Syniehubov.
The State Emergency Service extinguished the fire in Chuhuiv and are continuing rescue operations at the damaged apartment building in Kharkiv’s Kholodnohirskyi district.
The Russians also shelled Kharkiv on the evening of 27 October, hitting the ground in one district and a construction site in another. This attack injured four people.
