Ukrainian prosecutors say Russians executed 93 Ukrainian POWs

Ukrainian law enforcement has evidence of the execution of 93 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers on the battlefield, said Yurii Bielousov, Head of the Department for Countering Crimes Committed in the Conditions of Armed Conflict at the Office of the Prosecutor General, UkrInform reports.

According to him, 80% of the executions occurred this year, although the trend began in November of last year when "the attitude of Russian military personnel toward our prisoners worsened significantly," the head of the "war department" noted.

"At present, we have information about the deaths of 93 of our soldiers who were executed directly on the battlefield," revealed Bielousov.

He also reported that on 3 October, new information regarding the execution of another Ukrainian prisoner of war surfaced on social media.

"A video of the possible execution of another soldier in a brazen manner was circulated on Telegram channels. Together with the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine, we immediately registered another criminal case," Bielousov added.

On 1 October 2024, reports emerged on Telegram channels about the alleged shooting of 16 Ukrainian soldiers by Russian troops.

Ukraine has launched a criminal case under part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder by the Russian military.
