Russian forces have launched an attack on the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, striking a residential area with a FAB-250 bomb and injuring at least 21 civilians, including three minors. The attack occurred on the evening of 21 September, when Russian forces targeted a multi-story residential building.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service initially reported early this morning that at least 18 people were injured, including three children. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, later updated the casualty count, stating,
“21 people sought medical assistance as a result of the enemy strike on Kharkiv.”
Among the injured were three minors: two 17-year-olds and one 8-year-old child. Meanwhile, two are in serious condition, a 17-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman, according to Syniehubov.
The attack caused significant damage beyond the immediate impact site. The Emergency Service reported that the blast damaged windows and facades of seven apartment buildings and a preschool educational institution. Additionally, 21 cars were damaged, with firefighters extinguishing fires in four vehicles covering an area of 50 square meters.
The Emergency Service evacuated 68 people from the 16-story residential building near where the enemy bomb struck. Rescue workers also conducted operations to dismantle the destroyed structures at the entrance to the 16-story building. The emergency response involved 8 units of equipment and 44 rescuers from the State Emergency Service.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov initially reported the sound of explosions in the city around 23:00 yesterday, warning residents to be cautious as “the enemy has launched guided air bombs.” As the situation unfolded, Terekhov confirmed that a residential high-rise building had been hit. He later stated that several cars were on fire near the point of impact, and windows in nearby high-rise buildings were shattered.
