In the early hours of 19 September, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine, used several missiles, and also shelled multiple regions. The Ukrainian Air Force reported successfully intercepting all 42 Shahed-type one-way attack drones and one Kh-59/69 guided aviation missile. Other Russian attacks killed at least four civilians, and injured 20.
According to the Air Force, Russian forces fired three S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles from Russia’s Belgorod region at Kharkiv Oblast, one Kh-59/69 guided aviation missile from the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and 42 Shahed-type strike UAVs from the areas of Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk Oblast in Russia.
The air defense systems were active in Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, and Kherson oblasts, as reported by the Air Force.
In Kharkiv, several explosions from S-300/400 ballistic missiles were reported during the night. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that missile strikes initially hit a forest belt in the Shevchenkivskyi district, causing a fire. Residential buildings near the blast epicenters suffered damage, including broken windows. Later, Russia struck Kharkiv again with several guided bombs, with one impact occurring between a school and a kindergarten in the Industrial district, another hitting a depot in the Saltivskyi district, and a third falling in the suburbs of Kharkiv.
Mykolaiv Oblast was attacked twice by Russian FPV drones in the Kutsurub community, resulting in damage to a medical facility and a car in the village of Dniprovske. No casualties were reported. During the night, air defense forces shot down 18 Shahed 131/136 drones over the region.
In Chernihiv Oblast, Russian forces shelled eight border villages in the Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka communities using tube artillery, mortars, and drones. Border guards recorded 59 explosions. Additionally, Shahed drone debris caused damage to an educational institution in Cherkasy Oblast, with no injuries reported.
The Sumy region also came under attack, with Russian forces shelling the Krasnopillia community. The regional prosecutor’s office reported that three people were killed and one injured as a result of the shelling. A married couple, aged 73 and 72, died in the attack, while another elderly couple was hospitalized with injuries. The 66-year-old woman later died in the hospital.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Russian forces conducted an air strike on the Zaporizhzhia district during the night. Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that one woman was killed and three other civilians were injured. The victims included a 74-year-old woman who died, two 67-year-old women, and a 29-year-old man who were injured.
Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that Russian forces shelled 11 settlements in the Kherson region over the past day, injuring six people. The attacks damaged residential areas, including a multi-story building, three private houses, a milk tank, a car dealership, and a service vehicle.
In Donetsk Oblast, the regional military administration reported multiple Russian attacks resulting in at least 10 civilian injuries. Various settlements were targeted, including Kurakhove, Myrnograd, Pokrovsk, Lyman, Kostiantynivka, and Chasiv Yar. The attacks damaged infrastructure objects, private houses, and commercial buildings.
