Shmyhal: Ukraine aims to reduce number of ministries by one-third

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on 4 March that Ukraine plans to reduce the number of ministries by a third, which will also lead to a reduction in the number of civil servants.

“We are working on changing the government format, in particular, reducing the number of ministries. We want to reduce the number of ministries by a third and reduce the number of civil servants,” Shmyhal stated.

According to the Prime Minister, the government focuses on creating a strong Government Center where “supportive administrative functions” will be centralized. Shmyhal explained that ministries should have a small number of highly skilled specialists who will formulate policies, while the Government Center will provide legal support in personnel, accounting, and financial matters.

In a recent announcement, Shmyhal also revealed ambitious plans to construct numerous defense manufacturing plants in the country, aiming to bolster Ukraine’s defense industry.
