Ukraine plans to create a network of computer-aided microchip design companies, with a projected production capacity of up to 50,000 chips per month within three years of the project’s initiation.

Valeria Ionan, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for European Integration, stated this at the presentation of Ukraine’s Global Innovation Vision, according to NV Business.

“We will meet the needs of the domestic market and create a basis for exports,” she said.

Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences, Anatolii Zagorodniy, said that the development and production of components for infrared homing missile warheads, which the Ukrainian Defence Forces need, is particularly relevant, according to Uprom.info.

Zahorodnii said in the Security Talks TV program that the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine would be involved in reviving microelectronics production in Ukraine that stagnated for 30 years.

Ionan said that if the strategy for reviving the industry is approved, the Digital Transformation Ministry plans to look for a chip production partner in 2024. The project is scheduled to be implemented in 2025.

According to Ionan, Ukraine will create a network of fabless chip makers for automated chip design, allowing it to enter the chip market and take a position in the global semiconductor market.
