IStories, OCCRP: Ukraine continues to supply Russia with spare parts for aircraft and helicopters despite war

The Russian company Avia FED Service supplied the Russian aviation industry with spare parts from Ukraine worth over $4 million in 2022-2023, according to an investigation by Important Stories and OCCRP.

Overall, Russia received spare parts for its combat aircraft and helicopters worth over $7 million in both years.

According to customs data, the Avia FED Service imported:

  • parts for the repair of An-124 airplanes worth over $1 million, produced by the Kharkiv FED machine-building plant
  • parts for Ka-32 helicopter locating stations worth $754 000, produced by the Kyiv Radar plant
  • parts for the repair of An-24 and An-12 engines produced by Motor Sich
  • products of the Kyiv Artem plant, the Kharkiv aggregate design bureau, the Volchansk aggregate plant, and other Ukrainian enterprises worth nearly 2 million
  • products from France, the US, and the UK

Avia FED Service’s clients include the Russian Ministry of Defense, enterprises of state corporation Rostec, and the presidential Special Flying Squadron Rossiya.

With imposing sanctions on the company by Ukraine in 2018, the Avia FED Service began streaming parts for aircraft and helicopters through Linker, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates.

In particular, Linker received Ukrainian products from Motor Sich. Its head, Viacheslav Boguslaev, was detained last October on suspicion of state treason for “illegal deliveries of military goods for Russian attack aircraft.”

The last supply from Linker to Avia FED Service was made, according to customs data at our disposal, in January 2023.
