Ukrainian volunteer jailed to 18 years in Russia


The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced Ukrainian citizen Dmytro Holubiev to 18 years in a strict regime colony, finding him guilty of "committing an act of international terrorism," RFE/RL has informed

.

According to the Russian Federal Security Service, Dmytro Holubiev allegedly caused an explosion in the building seized by Russia-installed authorities in occupied Melitopol and planned another two - at the road and next to a military-civil administration of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Russian media outlets familiar with the "findings" of the investigation reported that Dmytro Holubiev opposed the Russian government and aggression against Ukraine.

In April 2023, the Center for Journalistic Investigations reported Dmytro Holubiev, a Zaporizhzhia volunteer who delivered humanitarian aid to the occupied city of Melitopol, would undergo a trial. Russian security forces abducted Holubiev in August 2022, and deported him to Crimea and later to Russia.
