Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit, the Defense Ministry said on 21 November.
According to Pistorius’s X (Twitter), he is in Kyiv to “personally see the current situation and the effectiveness of Germany’s support.”
Shortly after arrival, Pistorius visited a memorial to the EuroMaidan revolution and laid flowers in memory of the Maidan heroes. Today, On 21 November, Ukraine celebrates the 10th anniversary of the day the Revolution of Dignity and Freedom started in 2014.
In addition, Pistorius will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, as well as with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
It is the German Defense Minister’s second visit to Kyiv since February 2023. Then he announced the military aid for Ukraine in over 180 Leopard tanks.
On 20 November 2023, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit to meet the country’s leaders.
The Pentagon chief said he had arrived in the Ukrainian capital to deliver an important message:
“The United States will continue to stand with Ukraine in their fight for freedom against Russia’s aggression, both now and into the future,” he wrote.
US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin met with Ukraine’s President. According to Zelesnkyy, as a result of their meeting the United States would provide a new military aid package for Ukraine.
“There is a new defense package for our country from the United States. I am grateful for it. In particular, there will be more artillery – shells that are needed right now,” Zelenskyy said.
