Russian threats won’t dissuade Rheinmetall from building tank factory in Ukraine – CEO

The CEO of the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall says the company is sticking to its plan to build a tank factory in Ukraine and is not bothered by the bomb threats from Russia.

In his remark to BILD, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said:

"We will not be dissuaded from our assistance" to Ukraine, which has "effective capabilities to defend against attacks against sensitive targets."

Also, Rheinmetall is involved "with its partner company Ukroboronprom, which already has many locations in the country," according to BILD.

On 20 July, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, "Rheinmetall's armored vehicle plant will be a legitimate target in Ukraine if it is built."

Rheinmetall is establishing a production facility in Ukraine with Ukrainian state-owned Ukroboronprom to produce ammunition, armored vehicles, and also Panther main battle tanks.
