One of the symbols of Euromaidan is far from safe.
The builders who are working in the burnt-down Trade Union House on Maidan allowed the journalists to visit the site and see the state of the building.
The Trade Union House was built in the late 1970’s. It is famous for its information screen, hung at 24 meters. During the clashes in Maidan, the Trade Union House was seriously damaged by fire. In the beginning of summer, the building was covered up with posters, so that it is impossible to see what is happening at the construction site from outside.
This weekend Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated it was necessary to tear the Trade Union House down because of the significant damage to its structure. The statement gave rise to a lot of discussion, as this building is considered to be one of the symbols of Euromaidan. Besides, the citizen of Kyiv are fearful that a high-rise would be built instead of this relatively small building.
