Support Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia by joining the Annual Global Letter Writing Marathon of Amnesty International Ukraine.
4 Ukrainians were illegally detained in the Crimea this year and imprisoned in Russia under false accusations of terrorist acts: Oleh Sentsov, a filmmaker, Oleksandr Kolchenko, a public activist, Hennadiy Afanasiev, a lawyer, and Oleksiy Chirniya, a historian.
Please write immediately in Russian, English or your own language to the Prosecutor General and the Head of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation:
Dear Mr. Chaika, [Prosecutor General] // Mr. Bortnikov, [Head of the Federal Security Service]
This is to bring your attention to the case of Ukrainian citizens Oleh Sentsov, Alexander Kolchenko, Gennadii Afanasiev and Alexei Chirniya, detained in Simferopol and then taken to Moscow, where they are presently held in Lefortovo prison. We urge you to conduct an effective and independent investigation of Oleh Sentsov’s claims that he had been subjected to torture.
We insist that any foreigners detained on the territory of the Russian Federation have the right to consular protection and demand that these Ukrainian citizens be allowed to meet the Ukrainian consul.
We urge you to dismiss any charges against these people resulting from their exercising their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
We herewith request you to ensure Oleh Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko can without hindrance promptly consult their lawyers at all stages of the trial in accordance with international standards.
With best regards,
