On November 15, a conference for civic activists to learn from from experts in journalism, comedy, filmmaking, fundraising, and social media, in order to help civic activists reach a broader audience and engage with the easily war fatigued West. It will take place in New York from noon to 5PM at the Ukrainian Museum. Organized to honor the one year anniversary of EuroMaidan, the pro-democracy revolution in Ukraine that began November 2013, it is sponsored by Digital Maidan, Razom for Ukraine, Vann Alexandra, EuroMaidanPress, Babylon 13, and the Ukrainian Museum. It will bring together a wide spectrum of speakers that will tell civic activists about secrets of fundraising, how to apply principles of comedy writing to cover topics far from comical, and also about innovations in digital activism. The conference also includes a crash course in independent filmmaking.
Speakers include: crowdfunding wizard Alex Daly who last week raised over $80,000 in a single day for one of her clients; Emmy Award-winning comedy writer Meredith Scardino (The Colbert Report; The Late Show with David Letterman); and award-winning filmmakers like Jenny Halper (The Kids Are All Right; Kristin Wiig’s Girl Most Likely).
