Ukrainian director Mstyslav Chernov, whose "20 Days in Mariupol" won an Oscar, will chair the L'Œil d'Or documentary jury at Cannes 2026. Winner announced 22 May.
"None of us are naive. We know that many artists around the world lack the freedom and security to tell their stories," Jolie mentioned Ukrainian writer, killed by a Russian missile strike in 2023, during her speech at the Cannes Film Festival's Trophée Chopard ceremony.
The Cannes Film Festival launched its 78th edition with documentaries about Ukraine, including one featuring President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as "an actor who became commander-in-chief."
