RNBO: News & Analysis Center June 28 Update

OVERALL INFORMATION OF INFORMATIONAL-ANALYTICAL CENTER OF  NATIONAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE COUNCIL OF UKRAINE (RNBO) AS OF JUNE 28, 12PM

As of the morning of June 28, 2014 the situation in the ATO area is still tense. 64 objects of the state infrustructure remain seized, the activities of four objects are blocked, as Andriy Lysenko, spokesman of the informational-analytical center of the National Security and Defense Council reported today.

Since 5PMof June 27, terrorists have five timesfired at the checkpoints and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and National Guard unitsin the area of Sloviansk, Chervonopartysansk, Dmytrivka, Kramatorsk.  There are no casulties, three are wounded. The Armed Forces of Ukraine unit restored control over the checkpoint #1 near Sloviansk.

The situation on the border

Yesterday the terroritsts continued violating the ceasefire period. On June 27, from 6.15 PM until 6.50 PM gunmen made a mortar attack at the base of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast, 1500 kilometres from the checkpoint “Marynivka.”The shootout was in Chervona Zirka, Shakhtarsk district. Four mines detonated 30-40 metres from the checkpoint “Marynivka.” There were no casualties, no weapons or equipment were damaged.

During this shootout there was a movement of six tanks, APCs, and anti-aircraft installations on the territory of Russian Federation close to the border of Ukraine.

Military action in the conflict zone

In the afternoon of June 27 gunmen opened mortar fire at some of the checkpoints of the ATO forces near Sloviansk. The shooutout lasted about two hours. As a result of the battle, twomilitary servicemen were wounded (with mild and moderate severity). Almost at the same time, the terrorists opened fire with  mortars, automatic, and rifle-attached grenade launchers at another checkpoint. The shootout there lasted about 30 minutes. One more mortar fire attack was made at the ATO base near Tarany town, Donetsk Oblast. In all cases, the attack was repelled.

On June 27 during 5:00-5:15 PM the terrorists forced a shootout with mortars and small arms at the checkpoint in Ivanivka (crossroads of Krasniy Lyman and Izium). In response, the fire was opened with small arms, the AGS-17 grenade launcher, and a tank. The attack was repelled.

During 5.40-5.50PM the terrorists forced a shooutout with AGS-17 and sniper weapons at the checkpoint in Karlivka town. In response, fire was opened with small arms. The attack was repelled.

During today’s night three shootouts took place. In particular, around 1AM the airport in Kramatorsk was fired at from the southern suburbs of the city.

Around 5AM the ATO base near Dubrovka town was fired at from mortars. Seven shells detonated near the gas distribution station.

Around 6AM the base near Kryva Luka, from the side of Nikolayivka was shot at with mortars. The attack was repelled.

During all attacks there were no casualties among the Ukrainian military.

The situation in settlements within the ATO zone

On June 27,terrorists kidnapped a journalist, the chief editor of the local civic-political newspaper “Druzhkivskyi robochiy” in Donetsk Oblast. His location at this point is unknown.

A forced recruitment of the locals to terrorist gangs is being continued in the Eastern Ukraine. It is being especially actively conducted in Luhansk Oblast. Herewith, the voters’ register that was formed during the so called referendum in Luhansk on May 11, is used. First of all, the armed terrorists take into consideration young men of the military age that voted for the independence of Luhansk Oblast. Also, they are patroling the city, including the railway station, in order to forcefully mobilize men who are capable of bearing arms.

On June 27, as a result of repairs, the canal “Siverskyi Donets-Donbas” went back to operation. Water supply for all cities of Donetsk Oblast has been provided.  However, due to terrorist actions, there could be problems with water intake in the cities themselves.
