Trump rules out Pompeo and his $ 500 billion Ukraine peace plan from new cabinet

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo proposed a $500 billion lend-lease for Ukraine with NATO and EU membership support but excluded the return of occupied territories.

US President-elect Donald Trump announced he will not invite his former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, an advocate for increased Ukraine aid, to join his administration. Nikki Haley, Trump's former UN Ambassador and a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, has also been excluded from consideration. While Trump has emphasized ending Russia's war in Ukraine as a priority, he has not disclosed his strategy. His approach may become clearer through upcoming key appointments and adviser recommendations.
"I will not be inviting former Ambassador Haley or former Secretary of State Pompeo to join the administration, though I greatly value our previous cooperation," Trump wrote on social media.
In the summer of 2024, Pompeo outlined his Ukraine peace plan in The Wall Street Journal. His proposal included $500 billion in Lend-Lease assistance, Ukraine's NATO and EU membership, and using frozen Russian assets for reconstruction. The plan proposed Crimea's demilitarization but did not address the return of occupied territories. Trump continues evaluating administration candidates ahead of the 20 January 2025 inauguration.
