Ukrainian security service detains Russian from Omsk in Donetsk Region, prevents terrorist acts in Zaporizhzhia
Article by: Peter Dutczyn

The Security Service of Ukraine‬ has detained a group of saboteurs who had been plotting a series of terrorist acts at strategic and administrative facilities in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the news-based TV channel 5 Kanal said on 18 October.

The group was planning to set off explosives in an office of a political party in Zaporizhzhia, the channel said, showing metal cylinders with nails wrapped around them.

The group was led by a 39-year-old Ukrainian national who had joined the self-proclaimed ‘Donetsk people’s republic’ (DNR) in April and fought with its militants against Ukrainian servicemen.
It was established that the saboteurs had been acting on the instructions from the DNR leadership, the channel added.

The Security Service’s counterintelligence directorate has detained two Ukrainian nationals who fought against Ukrainian government troops in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported on 17 October.

Arms and a large amount of cartridges were confiscated from them. The National Guard has detained two men armed with AK assault rifles in Debaltseve, the UNIAN news agency said on 17 October, quoting the National Security and Defence Council. “One of the detainees turned out to be a Russian national from Omsk. He had a MANPAD gunlayer ID issued by the Donbas people’s militia,” UNIAN quoted a spokesman for the NSDC, Andriy Lysenko, as saying.

The other detainee is a resident from the Ukrainian city of Makiyivka. Two AK assault rifles and three magazines were seized from them.
