G7 and allies pledge support for Ukraine’s reconstruction

Over 30 countries and the EU adopted a Joint Declaration to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction during the meeting in New York.

The declaration was adopted during a gathering attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Joe Biden, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The White House has described this event as “historic.

Biden also highlighted that partner countries would assist Ukraine in transitioning from economic resilience to economic revival. He said that revenues from frozen Russian assets would be used for the country’s reconstruction.

“I am determined to ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to win and fight for its survival. Tomorrow, I will announce a series of actions to accelerate support for the Ukrainian military,” President Biden said about the declaration.

The declaration outlines several key points, including assistance for Ukraine’s reconstruction on its path to EU membership, coordination of support through the Ukrainian Donor Platform, and provision of additional financial support amounting to approximately $50 billion by the end of the year from revenues of frozen Russian assets, part of which will be directed to defense needs.

“This demonstrates our shared view of life – we protect people and provide people with the opportunity to live. And it is absolutely justified that those who help us stand now will be the first – together with Ukraine – to benefit from large-scale reconstruction,” President Zelenskyy said.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Joe Biden in New York during the UN General Assembly. The president’s spokesman said earlier that Zelenskyy would have two meetings with Biden during his visit to the United States.

Ukraine also announced that France will soon prepare and fully equip a Ukrainian brigade following Zelenslyy’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
