The Intermarché network has sent an official request to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Poland to allow a convoy transporting 40000 kilograms of Polish apples to enter the Kaliningrad Oblast. The apples are planned to be given free of charge to children of 37 schools functioning in the Oblast, informed Patrick Renault, the chairman of Les Mousquetaires in Poland.
“We watch the events connected with restriction of trade between Poland and Russian Federation with attention. We constantly observe the consequences for both societies of decisions that have been taken. We are not strangers to the problems of residents living in adjacent to Poland Kaliningrad-Oblast related to difficult access to consumer products. We cannot also pass by the situation of Polish farmers and orchardmen, who are important business partners for us,” said Renault, quoted in the message.
In this context, the chairman of Les Mousquetaires asked the ambassador of Russian Federation in Poland Alexandr Alekseev to enable the convoy of 5 trucks carrying 40.000 kilograms of apples to enter the Kaliningrad-Oblast. The Intermarché network is going to give the apples free of charge to children of 37 schools in the Oblast. The transportation is planned on the 12th September.
“Our initiative has a social dimension, goes beyond political partitions, and is an expression of solidarity between societies of both countries and an expression of support for Polish entrepreneurs from the agricultural and grocery sector,” summarized the chairman of Les Mousquetaires in Poland.
Les Mousquetaires is an association of 250 independent Polish entrepreneurs managing Intermarché grocery supermarkets and Bricomarché “house and garden” supermarkets. The trade network of Les Mousquetaires consists currently of 208 Intemarché and 99 Biomarché supermarkets. The strategical directions of both networks are set by the ITM Polska company. Les Mousquetaires are currently present in 6 European countries: Poland, France, Belgium, Portugal, and in Balkans. In 2013 the sales of „The Group of Musketeers” in Europe reached around 40 billions Euro.
