Australia to send reconnaissance aircraft to Germany to protect supplies to Ukraine
Australia will send an E-7A Wedgetail reconnaissance aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force to Germany to patrol the routes of humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine, according to Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, the Guardian reported.
“This is a war about the international rule of law, about whether a large nation can seek to impose its will on a smaller nation. This is about national sovereignty. This is about the people of Ukraine struggling to defend their democracy and their sovereignty,” Albanese said.
The Australian Air Force's E-7A Wedgetail aircraft will be stationed in Germany from October 2023. It will be responsible for early warning in the event of any threats from outside Ukraine to humanitarian and military aid routes. Australian officials emphasized that the Wedgetail will not enter or violate the airspace of Ukraine, Russia, or Belarus.
“We stand with the people of Ukraine,” Albanese told reporters near the Brandenburg Gate on 10 July, prior to the meeting with Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
