Former head of State Assets Fund detained in Boryspil

The former head of Ukraine's State Assets Fund was detained in Boryspil airport during an attempt to board a flight to Moscow, reports Commentator.

“According to information previously received by a Commentator news agency correspondent, Mr. Oleksandr Ryabchenko is being charged by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office with abuse of office, embezzlement of a large amount of state funds, and other corrupt activities, which resulted in budget losses of over 7 billion USD,” writes the publication.

The source also notes that the arrest occurred in the VIP lounge of the airport with several eyewitnesses. “In addition to Ryabchenko, his mistress, also a Ukrainian citizen, was detained. According to a source in the Prosecutor General's Office, Ryabchenko arrived at the airport without security and did not resist the arrest. Currently, the former head of the Fund is under questioning. The reason why Ryabchenko attempted to leave Ukrainian territory with false documents is being investigated,” added the publication.
