Ukraine downs 138 of 147 drones in overnight Russian Kinzhal and drone attack

Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight on 28 May with a Kinzhal aeroballistic missile and 147 drones of various types, Ukraine's Air Force said.

Air defense shot down or suppressed 138 of the drones by 08:00, but the missile and nine UAVs struck seven locations and debris fell at six more, the Air Force said. Three people were injured in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where homes, a lyceum, and a gas station were damaged.

What Russia launched

The Air Force said the Kinzhal was launched from the airspace of Russia's Lipetsk Oblast. The 147 attack drones included jet-powered Shahed types, Gerbera, Italmas, and other models, fired from Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia and from Hvardiiske and Chauda in occupied Crimea.

Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups took part in repelling the attack.

Damage in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

Russian attacks damaged a five-story building, a private house, and a lyceum in Pavlohrad and the Bohdanivka community in Pavlohrad district, regional military administration head Oleksandr Hanzha said on Telegram. "More than 20 times the enemy attacked two districts of the region with drones and artillery. Three people sustained injuries," he wrote.

A 38-year-old man was hospitalized in moderate condition, while a 69-year-old woman and a 62-year-old man were treated as outpatients. In Nikopol district, the strikes damaged a house and a gas station across Nikopol and the Chervonohryhorivka, Marhanets, and Pokrovska communities.
