Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov says he held a series of meetings in Sweden focused on expanding military assistance to Ukraine, technological cooperation, and preparing new defense contracts. Another key topic was the supply of Gripen aircraft.
Ukraine currently has agreements for the delivery of 150 Gripen fighter jets and 100 Rafale aircraft.
During the visit, Fedorov met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Defense Minister Pål Jonson, members of parliament, and representatives of the defense companies Saab and Ovzon.
Ukraine preparing new agreements on Gripen fighters
“The main focus of the visit, following the president’s instructions, is preparatory work for concluding contracts regarding Gripen aircraft,” Mykhailo Fedorov stated.
According to him, Sweden remains one of Ukraine’s key allies and one of the global leaders in the scale of military support provided to Kyiv.
Sweden invests in weapons already changing the situation on the battlefield
“I thanked the government, parliament, and citizens of Sweden for their systematic support of Ukraine,” Fedorov stressed.
He mentioned contributions to PURL, Giraffe radars, and RBS missiles that are helping protect Ukrainian skies from ballistic threats, Shahed drones, and other Russian UAVs.
The minister emphasized that one of Ukraine’s top priorities remains long-range 155 mm artillery ammunition.
“It is important that Sweden invests in the Czech Initiative, through which Ukraine receives ammunition necessary to contain the enemy on the battlefield,” he noted.
What changes when Ukraine and Sweden move toward joint defense tech solutions
During the meetings, the sides discussed the development of satellite communications, electronic warfare systems, ballistic missile defense, DELTA integration, and cooperation in military AI technologies.
“We are strengthening the protection of the skies ... This is the shared path of Ukraine and its allies to force Russia toward peace,” the minister added.
Ukraine also proposed launching Brave Sweden, a platform for developing joint defense tech startups and exchanging battlefield experience between Ukraine and Sweden.
