Ukraine’s Defense Forces are strengthening their defensive capabilities in the southwestern section of the border, near the unrecognized Transnistria, due to potential risks, according to DeepState. Transnistria is a Russia-occupied region of Moldova, where Russian troops have been stationed since 1992.
Transnistria is located just 50–80 km from Odesa, Ukraine’s largest port city.
Estimates indicate that the entire Transnistrian territory, covering roughly 12% of Moldova, is under the control of pro-Russian forces.
Ukraine is urgently building fortification shield
“A multi-layered system of fortifications is being actively developed in the region,” the report states.
Engineering obstacles are being created, and a network of lateral (rockade) roads is being developed, improving unit mobility and enabling rapid troop redeployment if needed.
Special attention is also being given to combat readiness checks. Commanders are inspecting units, assessing their supply levels, staffing, and fortification conditions.
Their ability to operate under potential escalation scenarios is also being evaluated.
Evacuation readiness in heightened alert mode
In addition, the region is checking the readiness of hospitals and the evacuation system to handle potential increased demand, ensuring rapid response if necessary.
“The main goal of these measures is to increase the resilience of defense in the southwestern direction and ensure that the Defense Forces are prepared for any development of events,” analysts emphasize.
The Ukrainian command stresses that the situation is under control, but preparations are underway.
Earlier, Moscow tried to spread false claims about Ukraine to justify a potential attack from Transnistria.
The Russians published claims that troops from France and the UK arrived in the Ukrainian city of Odesa to intimidate the pro-Russian separatist region of Moldova. At the same time, Russia provided no evidence to support these claims.
