Russia attacked Dnipro for more than 10 hours. Five people are dead, up to six may still be under rubble

Russia carried out a prolonged attack on Dnipro, a city of over one million people, lasting more than 10 hours. Drones and ballistic missiles struck residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported

During the day, Russian forces hit the same residential district again after targeting it overnight.

At least 40 people have been reported injured, including children. Twenty-three were hospitalized, and two are currently missing.

Five people were killed in Dnipro. Across Ukraine, the death toll has reached seven, with additional casualties reported in Chernihiv Oblast.

People may still be alive under rubble

According to Serhii Kovtoniuk, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service in the region, up to six people may still be trapped under the rubble of a destroyed building.

Rescuers are manually dismantling debris to reach survivors.

Andrii, who lives opposite the destroyed four-story building, said he was asleep when the explosions began.

“The first explosion was around 3:30 a.m., and the second, stronger one, about five minutes later. I was sleeping — my blanket was covered in glass shards, and the doors were blown out,” he said.

His brother was resting in another room when the door hit him in the head. He was taken away by ambulance, Suspilne reports

"I had a stroke, it’s hard for me to go through all this… I was at home the whole time," Andrii shared.

Another Dnipro resident is David, who lives in a building that was partially destroyed by the attack. According to him, after the first strike, he and his stepfather went down to a shelter. They were not injured, but their apartment was damaged.

“I woke up from the explosion — that was the first missile. We went downstairs, then a second, third, and I think a fourth hit the building. There was dust everywhere; you couldn’t see anything,” David said.

“A signal to the world”: Ukraine calls for urgent strengthening of air defense

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that such attacks should push international partners to act faster and more decisively.

He called for urgent reinforcement of air defense systems amid ongoing strikes across the country, including the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa, and Kyiv oblasts.

In addition to residential buildings, a gas station was hit, sparking a fire that destroyed three trucks.
