Spain will transfer 100 armored tactical vehicles VAMTAC to Ukraine, along with a batch of 155 mm artillery shells. Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced the delivery during her visit to Kyiv after a meeting with Mykhailo Fedorov, according to the Ministry of Defense.
These are mobile platforms designed to protect personnel and improve operational mobility in field conditions.
The British short-range air defense system, Rapid Ranger, is installed on such vehicles.
More than equipment: new level of defense cooperation
Fedorov stated that the parties also agreed to expand cooperation further, particularly in the field of Ukrainian drone production.
Another key direction will be the development of air defense capabilities and the modernization of legacy systems that were previously phased out but can still be adapted to modern combat conditions.
Air defense, missiles, and Patriot: focus on protecting the skies
Fedorov also emphasized Spain’s contribution to the PURL mechanism and its support for supplying missiles for Patriot systems.
“This is critical for protecting airspace and safeguarding infrastructure. We are working on integrating different types of missiles and improving their effectiveness,” the Ukrainian minister said.
In March, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a new €1 billion military aid package for Ukraine for 2026.
Part of the aid, financed through the EU SAFE instrument, will be directed toward developing joint production within Ukraine’s defense industry. Ukrainian manufacturers also signed four cooperation documents, three of which were concluded directly with the company.
The Ukrainian company Fire Point, the State Kyiv Design Bureau, Luch Design Bureau, and the research and production enterprise Radionix signed cooperation agreements with Sener. Another agreement was signed between the Spanish company Escribano and the Ukrainian UAV manufacturer Skyeton.
