Russian forces attacked Kyiv Oblast with drones overnight on 20 April, damaging residential buildings in Brovary district and injuring one person, the head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration Mykola Kalashnyk reported on social media.
"Tonight the enemy is again attacking the Kyiv region with drones. Peaceful people, our homes, our ordinary life are in the crosshairs," Kalashnyk said.
According to Kalashnyk, two private houses were damaged as a result of the strikes. He initially reported that a man born in 1974 had been hospitalized following the attack.
"In the Brovary district, unfortunately, there is a casualty. A man born in 1974 has been hospitalized to a local hospital. All necessary medical assistance is being provided," he said.
The State Emergency Service (DSNS) later updated the information, reporting that a 51-year-old person was injured in the Brovary district attack. The casualty was hospitalized and is receiving the necessary medical assistance. The fire caused by the strike has been extinguished.
Air raid alerts and scale of the attack
On the night of 20 April, air raid alerts were declared twice in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine — first over the threat of ballistic missiles, and later due to enemy drones.
According to the Air Force Command, Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight with 142 strike UAVs, including Shahed-type drones (among them jet-powered variants), as well as "Gerbera," "Italmas," and other types of drones. Approximately 100 of those were Shaheds.
As of 8:00, air defense had shot down and suppressed 113 enemy drones in the north, south, and east of the country, the Air Force reports. Hits from 28 strike UAVs were recorded at 18 locations, with debris from downed drones falling at six additional sites.
"The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine," the Air Force said, adding that the attack was still ongoing, with several enemy UAVs remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
Strike on Velykyi Burluk
Overnight on 20 April, Russian occupation forces also attacked Velykyi Burluk in Kharkiv Oblast, the State Emergency Service reports. Three residents were injured in the strike.
"Tonight the enemy hit a three-apartment residential building with drones. As a result of the strikes, a large-scale fire broke out in the building over an area of 200 square meters. Unfortunately, three residents were injured," the DSNS said.
According to the State Emergency Service, rescuers worked in extremely difficult conditions under the threat of repeat strikes in order to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. Medics provided the necessary assistance to those injured.
