Ukraine has been negotiating with Arab countries to export naval drones, which are deterring the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. The parties discussed the possibility of Ukraine assisting in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after his working trip to the Middle East.
With drones such as the Magura, Ukraine has managed to restrict Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which once dominated the sea. Ukrainian attacks forced Russia to adapt and limited its ability to conduct large-scale strikes in the Black Sea.
Such drones are designed for patrolling sea areas, monitoring airspace, and supporting evacuation and logistics missions.
Precision and effectiveness of modern warfare: dozens of targets hit
Over years of drone use only, more than 17 Russian naval and aerial targets have been hit, 15 of which were completely destroyed, including two Su-30 fighter jets.
“We have not only expertise in layered air defense systems, but also experience in unblocking maritime trade routes using naval drones,” Zelenskyy said.
Iran is doing to the US what Ukraine did to Russia — Washington didn’t learn
He noted that Arab countries understand they can rely on Ukrainian expertise in this area.
“We raised this issue because it is painful and urgent for the whole world, due to the energy crisis,” the president claimed.
Black Sea corridor experience becomes key to global supply security and interests Middle Eastern partners
He added that Ukraine discussed this in detail and shared its experience with the Black Sea corridor and how it functions, UNIAN reports.
“They understand that our Armed Forces were very effective in unblocking the Black Sea corridor. We are sharing these details,” Zelenskyy explained.
Regarding other directions, including the Strait of Hormuz, Zelenskyy noted that the US is currently handling them.
“But we are always ready to help our partners,” the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
Earlier, Zelenskyy met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss security partnerships and ways to counter regional threats amid Iranian attacks on Middle Eastern states.
Kyiv has developed such systems over the past five years of defending against Russian strikes, including drones of Iranian design. The president said Ukraine can both offer expertise and benefit from support to strengthen its own defences.
