UK just gave Ukraine’s air defense £100 million superboost

The UK is urgently providing an additional £100 million to bolster Ukraine’s defenses against relentless Russian air attacks, the British government reports

The funding will be immediately directed toward strengthening Ukrainian air defense systems to protect frontline forces and critical infrastructure.

The total UK commitments for air defense to protect Ukraine over the past two months have reached £600 million.

"I am determined to do everything we can to support a sovereign and free Ukraine for generations to come," Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasizes.

Joint Expeditionary Forces in Helsinki confirm support for Ukraine

The aid package was announced at a meeting of the Joint Expeditionary Forces leaders in Helsinki, where discussions focused on maximizing support for Ukraine.

"As Putin continues his abhorrent attacks across Ukraine, my message is simple - there will be no let up in the UK’s support," Starmer claims.

British aid enhances defenses to protect millions

Defense Secretary John Healey has confirmed that the aid package will strengthen air defense capabilities to protect civilians, cities, and critical facilities.

"The axis of aggression between Russia and Iran makes it increasingly important that we build on Ukrainian expertise and innovation, supported by British industry," he also claimed.

He adds that leveraging Ukrainian experience and innovations, supported by British industry, is key to victory.

Healey has also paid tribute to the courage and ingenuity of the Ukrainian people and expressed determination to make 2026 the year the war ends.

Earlier, the UK allowed its military to board and potentially seize sanctioned Russian “shadow fleet” vessels passing through its waters, marking a new step aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow’s oil exports and war financing.

The shadow fleet’s network of oil tankers has enabled Moscow to maintain oil export volumes by circumventing sanctions through evasive shipping, mitigating the expected economic impact and continuing to generate revenue for the state budget during the full-scale war in Ukraine.
