Ukraine will receive new CVR(T) armored vehicles from Latvia, the Defense Ministry reports.
The CVR(T) fleet will enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces, especially in combat operations that require high mobility and protection in difficult terrain.
Why is CVR (T) indispensable in modern combat?
British CVR(T) are in service in several countries and are noted for their high maneuverability.
It is achieved thanks to a lightweight aluminum-alloy hull that provides protection against bullets and shrapnel, as well as low ground pressure.
"The wide tracks prevent the vehicle from getting stuck in sand or mud," the Defense Ministry notes.
Currently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have the FV103 Spartan with a 7.62 mm machine gun, the FV104 Samaritan, and the FV107 Scimitar Mk2 in service.
The combat weight of the FV103 in its base configuration is approximately 8,170 kg, and in modern modifications with additional armor, up to 10,600 kg. Maximum speed in combat conditions does not exceed 75 km/h, with a range of 510 km.
The FV103 is designed to carry 7 personnel and is armed with a single 7.62 mm machine gun. The vehicle can climb slopes up to 60% in gradient.
FV107 Scimitar: armor, firepower, advanced sights
This modernized vehicle is based on the Spartan APC hull, which has been widened and strengthened.
Combat weight increased to approximately 12,250 kg.
Protection has been significantly enhanced: ceramic armor has been added over the aluminum hull, and mine-resistant seats have been installed for the crew. Armament remains unchanged, with a 30-mm L21 RARDEN cannon with a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun.
Electronics, communications, and targeting systems have been fully upgraded. Maximum speed is about 80 km/h, with a range of up to 500 km.
FV104 Samaritan armored ambulance
The FV104 Samaritan is an unarmed armored ambulance of the CVR(T) family.
The interior is adapted for medical needs: the Samaritan can carry up to 4 lying wounded or 5–6 seated. The crew usually consists of 2 people (driver and medic), allowing more space in the troop compartment. Its chassis is fully standardized with the rest of the family.
The vehicle's weight is approximately 8,700 kg, its maximum speed is up to 72 km/h, and its range is 480–500 km.
Its low silhouette and tracked drive enable effective off-road operation in mud and snow, where wheeled evacuation vehicles cannot operate.
