The Ukrainian parliament has adopted an appeal to the Council of Ministers of Poland and the governments of Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Kyiv has urged them to impose a full ban on trade and transit with Russia and Belarus, according to UkrInform.
Despite existing sanctions, trade between the EU and Russia and Belarus continues to provide significant revenue for these regimes, financing their military-industrial complexes. Legislative initiative No. 14324 was supported by 257 deputies.
Poland and the Baltics could break aggressor’s financial backbone
The authors of the resolution emphasize that a complete halt of trade with Russia and Belarus is an investment in the national and regional security of Poland and the Baltic states.
Cutting off Russia and Belarus from a logistical hub in the EU would deal a powerful blow to funding their military-industrial complexes and limit the aggressor’s ability to wage war against Ukraine.
A demonstration of strength for the democratic world
The Ukrainian parliament calls on Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to initiate a full ban on export-import operations, including trade and transit of goods, and to secure EU support to incorporate such restrictions into upcoming sanctions packages.
The implementation of a total embargo on the EU’s eastern borders is expected to send a strong signal to EU partners and the democratic world, while significantly supporting Ukrainians in their fight for survival.
