In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the Ukrainian special unit Artan, as part of a comprehensive operation, has regained control over key positions. The mission has improved the tactical situation along the frontline, according to the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence

The elite special unit Artan was formed in spring 2022. Initially, it numbered only a few dozen members. Today, it consists of several hundred. The unit carries out the most unconventional missions, ranging from assault operations to sabotage and reconnaissance tasks, as per RBC-Ukraine.

To join Artan, candidates must pass both a selection test and a polygraph examination.

The operation is being conducted under challenging logistics and amid constant Russian attempts to hold positions through so-called “meat assaults". Due to coordination with other units of the Department of Active Measures and the Defense Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian fighters achieved significant results.

Currently, more than 70% of Zaporizhzhia Oblast is under Russian occupation. However, the region's main city, Zaporizhzhia, remains under Ukrainian control.

What did Artan fighters accomplish on the frontline?

During the mission:

  • Russian forward assault groups were destroyed.
  • Concentrations of Russian personnel and equipment were struck;
  • Dozens of occupiers were eliminated.

“New record”: Zaporizhzhia, city that may become 2026’s decisive front, endures 8-hour continuous air raid alert due to Russian attacks

A crucial part of the operation involved cutting key Russian logistical arteries and establishing fire control over them, preventing Russian assaults in this sector.

Artan commander reveals plans and effectiveness of the special operation

Commander of Artan Victor Torkotiuk, also known as Titan, notes that the offensive actions near Stepnohirsk are successful due to the high level of coordination between units.

Earlier, the Times reported that the life expectancy of a Russian soldier here is only 12 minutes

Assault groups are supported by heavy-strike UAVs, artillery, and other fire assets, allowing them to maintain control of the bridgehead and prepare for the final clearing of the Russians from the settlement.

The operation is ongoing, with Ukrainian defenders maintaining initiative along the front, ensuring the security of Zaporizhzhia’s outskirts and preparing for further counteroffensive actions.
