President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sanctioned 225 captains of vessels that export Russian oil products as part of Russia's so-called "shadow fleet," the Presidential Office reports.
The captains hold citizenship in 11 different countries, including Russia, India, and the Philippines.
"Monitoring of the situation in the Black, Red, and Baltic seas showed: these captains operated vessels of Russia's shadow fleet and transported oil bypassing the sanctions of the EU, G7, and other states," the Presidential Office said.
Most of the tankers in question — 188 out of the total — are already subject to sanctions imposed by the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
A separate, second sanctions package targets individuals and companies tied to Russia's military-industrial complex. It covers 46 Russian citizens, two Iranian citizens, and 44 Russian companies, according to the Presidential Office.
The sanctioned firms supply, develop, manufacture, and repair equipment, electronic warfare systems, and spare parts for Russia's defense sector. Their products are used in the production of ballistic and cruise missiles, strike and reconnaissance drones, small arms, and ammunition, the Presidential Office reports.
The two Iranian nationals are linked to the supply of aviation parts and components in circumvention of sanctions on behalf of Iran's Aviation Industries Corporation, which partners with Russia in the development and production of Shahed drones, according to the Presidential Office.
