France will provide €71 million in grant funding to Ukraine, with part of the aid earmarked for strengthening the country’s energy sector, Ukraine’s Energy Minister Denis Shmyhal announced on 19 February.
Ukraine’s energy system has faced repeated Russian missile and drone attacks in recent months, causing widespread infrastructure damage and winter power outages. Authorities have been working to maintain supply, repair facilities, and use emergency generation and imports to keep critical services running.
Kyiv and Paris sign nuclear energy cooperation document
The funds were agreed during talks with Roland Lescure, France’s minister responsible for the economy, finance, industry, energy and digital sovereignty.
Ukraine and France also signed a cooperation document on nuclear energy, which Shmyhal said creates a basis for deeper strategic partnership and sets a framework for rebuilding and modernizing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Over 140 generators delivered, 150 more on the way
Shmyhal noted that Ukraine has already received more than 50 deliveries of humanitarian energy aid from France, including over 140 high‑capacity generators. He said an additional €5.7 million has been contributed to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund. France has also committed to sending another 150 generators to Ukraine during February.
The minister said Ukrainian and French partners are working on three key infrastructure projects to improve the resilience of regional energy systems. He added that French companies are engaged and ready to expand cooperation in Ukraine’s energy sector.
