Russia intends to bring Ukraine back under its sphere of influence first, and then the entirety of Eastern Europe. Moscow will not limit itself to only Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, says Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, Radio NV reports.
“Many Ukrainians, and I as well, want the war to end, but not through the surrender of territories to the Russian Federation,” he says.
Peace at the cost of someone else's home
Kostenko notes that even if Ukraine were to theoretically give up territory, the war would not end, because “we objectively see the intentions of the Russian Federation.”
“And the only way to stop them is by destroying their army, inflicting maximum damage on it, and closing the sky,” he said.
According to Kostenko, everyone should consider whether they are personally ready to give up their own village, town, or community to Russia so that a neighboring settlement can live comfortably.
Plans laid out year by year: not only Ukraine under threat
Kostenko emphasizes that he is “trying to convey the reality that Russia is not going to stop.”
“It deliberately puts forward conditions that are unrealistic for us to meet, thereby prolonging the war,” he says.
According to the lawmaker, "Russia's goals are more strategic than just Donetsk Oblast."
“They intend to bring Ukraine back under their sphere of influence first, and then all of Eastern Europe. These plans exist, and they are already clearly laid out year by year,” Kostenko stressed.
This means that the war against Ukraine is only the first stage of a much broader geopolitical project, the consequences of which directly affect the entire continent.
