Authorities in Russia's Belgorod are draining heating systems from hundreds of apartment buildings following damage to energy infrastructure, Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced.
The measure affects not only residential buildings but also educational and medical facilities across specific areas of the city, according to Gladkov. Kindergartens in Belgorod that still have heating, electricity, and water are being converted to 24-hour operations, Gladkov said.
The decisions follow explosions in Belgorod on the evening of 7 February during a missile threat alert. Power outages struck the city and Belgorod district after the incident. Telegram channels reported that the Belgorod electrical substation and the Luch thermal power plant were hit during the strikes.
The heating system drainage in mid-winter marks an escalation in the impact of infrastructure damage on civilian facilities in the border region.
